Raising awareness of eating disorders

03 March, 2017

Advisors from the Evolve service will be raising awareness of eating disorders in Hull city centre tomorrow.
They will be providing advice and information outside the Carers’ Information Support Service in King Edward Street from 10am to 4pm as part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, which is running from February 27 to March 5.

Evolve is Hull’s eating disorder service, offering support and interventions in the Hull area to those aged 18 over who are experiencing an eating disorder.

Evolve operations manager Mike Johnson said: “Eating disorders affect an estimated 725,000 people in the UK yet so many people suffer in silence and without their loved ones knowing.

“Our aim is to make sure people who have an eating disorder know where to turn for help but also to ensure that their friends and family can spot the signs.”

Eating Disorder Awareness Week is promoted by Beat, the UK eating disorders charity, which is launching a public awareness campaign to ensure that GPs, family members and friends are better equipped to spot the tell-tale signs.

The Evolve service is provided by City Health Care Partnership CIC and works with Seed, a local charity for people with eating disorders.
