Donna Craven, Infection Prevention and Control Nurse at City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) was awarded a staff sponsorship from the organisation’s Foundation charity of £500 to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to support The Daisy Appeal. The appeal has been raising money for a £4.5 million centre at Castle Hill to bring world class diagnostic services for cancer, heart disease and shortly dementia to North and East Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire and parts of North Yorkshire.

Donna’s Kilimanjaro climb started on Friday 10th October via the Lemosho route. The ascent took 6 days, setting off for the summit of Uhuru Peak at 5895m above sea level at midnight on16th October. The final ascent from basecamp took about 9 hours.

Donna said, “Without the guides’ help none of the group would have summited, they were fantastic. They encouraged, supported and sang us up the mountain. It was a fantastic experience and I would like to thank the Foundation for sponsoring me for the Daisy scanner appeal and to all those who sponsored me for Hull Animal Welfare.”

Denise Anderton, social business and public relations director at City Health Care Partnership CIC and Chair of the Foundation, said, “This is a fantastic achievement and we were delighted to be able to sponsor Donna for her chosen charity. Staff sponsorship is a vital part of the Foundation’s work, as it not only encourages our colleagues to help local and national charities, it also means we can give something back into our communities through their endeavours I hope Donna’s amazing African adventure will encourage more staff to think about what they can do and to apply for funding from the CHCP Charity.”
