CHCP CIC nurses get national recognition

02 October, 2013

City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) has been shortlisted in 4 different categories at this year’s Nursing Times Awards. The awards are an annual event that celebrates the fantastic work carried out by nurses and those who support them throughout the country.

CHCP CIC is a community healthcare provider and offer over 75 diverse services in community settings, to over half a million people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The A&E Liaison Service has been shortlisted for the Emergency and Critical Care category. This is a nurse-led liaison service working across primary, community and acute care.

Patients aged over 65 years who attend A&E are screened to identify any potential risks, and a follow-up appointment is arranged to prevent further harm or deterioration, promote health and wellbeing and facilitate a safe discharge and continued care at home. This service reduces hospital re-attendance and the demand on emergency services.

Men Need Sheds have been shortlisted for the Nursing in Mental Health category. This project gets older men who are isolated or have mild to moderate mental health problems together to socialise, relax and get some gardening done.

Dee Howarth set up this Men Need Sheds project: “Any recognition that Men Need Sheds receives is great, especially on a national level. The project is an excellent way of getting this group of people involved in activities and, more importantly, making friends and having a laugh.”

The community based Tuberculosis (TB) Nursing team have been shortlisted for the Nursing in the Community Award for their efforts to maximise their ability to screen and detect TB in hard to reach groups. They have introduced a number of initiatives including screening new overseas students, raising TB awareness amongst GPs and introducing a text messaging service to remind patients to attend clinics.

It’s not just the frontline staff getting recognition at these awards, but also those who support them. CHCP CIC’s Employee Wellbeing Project has been shortlisted for Excellence in Supporting Staff Health and Wellbeing.

Employee Wellbeing Advisor, Rebecca Scarr said, “Our workforce continues to be our most vital resource and improving their health and wellbeing is crucial for meeting and increasing the demand for safe, high quality patient care.”

Sue Pender, Professional Practice Development Manager at CHCP CIC has helped staff with their submissions, “Being shortlisted is a fantastic achievement for the individuals and services involved. To be shortlisted for 4 different categories reflects the great work carried out by CHCP CIC across a range of different services. Hopefully we’ll be winners on the day!”

The award ceremony will be held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 30th October 2013.
