Jean Bishop Integrated Care Centre Raises over £3,300 for Age UK Hull on Bee Lady Day

19 June, 2025

May 13th marked a memorable day at City Health Care Partnership’s Jean Bishop Integrated Care Centre (ICC) as the team honoured the legacy of Jean Bishop - affectionately known as the Bee Lady - with a fun-filled Bee Lady Day celebration. This special event was held on Jean’s birthday, making it an even more meaningful occasion to commemorate her incredible efforts in raising funds for Age UK Hull. The festivities culminated in a remarkable total of £3,307.14 raised for the charity.

The afternoon was brimming with excitement and community spirit as guests enjoyed a host of activities from a delightful afternoon tea to raffles, tombolas, and a Great British Bake Off-style Bee Cake-Off. The Bee Cake-Off showcased the creative talents of the team with contenders presenting beautifully crafted cakes inspired by Jean’s iconic bee motif.

The celebration didn’t end at the ICC. The team embarked on an epic walk to several pubs in East Hull on Saturday 17 May. The trek concluded at Sewell Group Craven Park, home of Hull KR, where the team fundraised during their match against Huddersfield. Laura Cawkwell, senior MDT coordinator supervisor, said the public were amazingly generous. “When they saw us walking past, people stopped their cars and came over to give us money,” she said. “We raised over £1,000 from donations on the walk. It was so heartwarming.”

Bee Lady Day was not only a fundraiser but a celebration of Jean Bishop’s life and the indelible mark she left on Hull and its residents. Her tireless work for Age UK Hull continues to inspire and the funds raised in her honour will go a long way in supporting the organisation’s initiatives for older adults in the community.

The team at the Jean Bishop Integrated Care Centre is incredibly grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to this special day, ensuring that Jean’s spirit of generosity and kindness lives on.
