Living with Dementia Event

East Riding Carers Support Service and Hull’s Carers Information and Support Service (CISS) are joining forces to bring a brand new event aimed at people living with dementia and those who care for them to the region.
The new event, called ‘Living with Dementia’, will take place at Hull City Hall 10am-3pm on Wednesday 26 April.
The aim of the day, which is supported by City Health Care Partnership CIC, is to showcase the various support organisations and information resources that are available for all those affected by dementia across Hull and the East Riding.
CISS manager Mike Johnson, said: “Carers living in the East Riding and Hull can take advantage of a range of support services but many people are not aware of them. This event is about telling people what is out there and how they can get access to these services.”
Making a special appearance on the day will be players from rugby league teams Hull KR, and Hull FC who will be taking along the Challenge Cup which they won last season, along with some memorabilia to share with visitors.
The day will feature a series of rolling interactive workshops and around 40 different information stands. Reminiscence tools and props will also be available on the day.
Councillor Richard Harrap, East Riding of Yorkshire Council portfolio holder for adult and carer services, will jointly open the event alongside Councillor Gwen Lunn, Hull City Council portfolio holder for public health and adult social care.
Councillor Harrap said: “This is the first time that East Riding Carers Support have teamed up with Hull’s Carers Information and Support Service to deliver an event like this to support residents from across the region who are living with the realities of dementia, so this really is an exciting new development which I hope people will find truly beneficial.
“I am proud to be involved in such an event at a time when addressing the needs of all those affected by dementia is more important than ever before, and with Dementia Awareness Week coming up on 15-21 May this event is a great way to start raising awareness of the condition and just how it impacts on people’s lives.”
Councillor Lunn said: “We’re delighted to be working with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to deliver this event; bringing together our resources in this way strengthens our ability to reach people affected by dementia.
“This is a really good opportunity for people right across our wider region to be able to see all the help that is available in one place.
“Visitors will be able to find out exactly what help they or loved ones could receive, speak to the professionals there and see reminiscence tools in action, which really brings to life the way they can help people with dementia”.
The event is free to attend and there is no need to book in advance – everyone is invited to just turn up on the day.
