New treatment for East Riding patients
26 June, 2026
City Health Care Partnership CIC is excited to announce the addition of a new therapy unit for musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy patients at Alfred Bean Hospital in Driffield.
Thanks to a very generous donation by the League of Friends of the Alfred Bean Hospital, an Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (EWST) unit has been installed at the hospital. This new equipment will enhance the MSK team’s ability to deliver evidence-based care for conditions such as chronic tendon pain.
As part of this development, the team has created dedicated clinical pathways to ensure that EWST is offered only where appropriate, following a thorough assessment and comprehensive course of first-line conservative care and rehabilitation. This means the therapy will be considered as part of a wider rehabilitation plan, rather than as a standalone referral, helping patients in our community achieve improved outcomes and quality of life closer to home. The Shock Wave therapy is not an option that patients can choose for themselves as they need to be carefully assessed to make sure it’s right for them.
Nicky Ingham, Treasurer of the League of Friends of the Alfred Bean Hospital, Driffield said, “We are delighted to be able to help the physiotherapy team at the Alfred Bean Hospital to purchase some new equipment, using the funds and support from the Dobson Family Charitable Trust 2021. We are working hard to ensure that Mr Dobson’s legacy is put to good use for the benefit of the people of Driffield and the surrounding areas and in a case like this, it is fantastic to help the current providers who already run their services at the hospital to expand what they can offer at Driffield.”
“We are incredibly grateful for this generous support,” said Martin Billing, clinical lead and operations manager. “This equipment allows us to offer patients access to advanced, non-invasive treatments here in Driffield for issues that are not responding to conservative care and where patients are struggling to improve, reducing the need for onward referral and ensuring they receive high-quality care as part of their local physiotherapy service.”
