Wellbeing Event to showcase Services on offer in Hull and the East Riding

16 April, 2012

A wellbeing event is being held at Woodford Leisure Centre on Wednesday 25th April 2012, 10am to 4pm showcasing the variety of health and wellbeing activities and services available to people who experience Severe Mental Illness, Learning Disabilities, Dementia and/or Autism in the area.

The event aims to demonstrate the variety of physical health and wellbeing activities and services available locally, allowing attendees the chance to try out many activities (free of charge) and meet the people running them.

Members of Strike (Britain’s Got Talent) will be providing workshops throughout the day, alongside Hull KR players who will spend their time meeting people and promoting a healthy active lifestyle.

Organiser of the event Suzanne Nichols, Wellbeing Nurse Adviser at City Health Care Partnership CIC said about the day:

“Patients with Severe Mental Illness and Learning Disabilities have a significantly shorter life expectancy than the general population, and are far more likely to develop a variety of health conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers.

The risk of getting these physical health conditions can be significantly reduced by taking regular exercise, whilst also having a positive impact on their psychological wellbeing.

We have some fantastic health and wellbeing services on offer across Hull and the East Riding, and the event is a chance for these to be brought to the forefront, highlighting how they can make a difference to the lives of anyone experiencing these conditions.”

The event is also open to carers, family, friends and staff/voluntary organisations.

Activities on the day include: trampoline, football, basket ball, walking groups, adizones, zumba, new age kurling, gym tours, chair exercise, adapted cycles, table tennis, badminton, orienteering, line dancing and many more. Anyone attending the event will be offered a free physical health check, a bottle of water from Blue Keld and other goodies including pedometers.

City Health Care Partnership CIC is working in partnership with Humber Sport, NHS Hull, Hull City Council and Humber NHS Foundation Trust to organise the Wellbeing Event.
