What to expect

Your referral will be triaged and added to a waiting list if appropriate.

Assessment Appointment

You will be contacted by one of our care co-ordination health advisors who will arrange a telephone appointment for you with the service.

You will receive conformation of this appointment in a letter along with a bladder and/or bowel chart to complete. It is important that the charts are completed before your telephone appointment takes place as you will be asked for the information during your appointment as part of your assessment.

The bladder chart is to record fluid in and fluid out and the bowel chart is to record bowel movements and type of stool (poo). If you have any difficulty completing the charts then please do not hesitate to contact the number on your letter and someone will discuss this with you.

You appointment will be with the most appropriate member of the team and should take around one hour. This will include a comprehensive assessment to determine the cause of your symptoms and create a personal treatment plan.

Bladder Scans

If you require a clinical examination or a bladder scan then you a 30min clinic appointment will be arranged. A home visit can be made for this if you are housebound.

Incontinence Pads

If you use pads, weighing them may be suggested to help work out how much urine is leaking. If pads are to be prescribed this also helps us to work out the best product for you.  We will arrange an appropriate time to visit you at home to do the pad weigh and you will be asked to save 24hrs worth of used products in small plastic bags before the visit.

PLEASE NOTE: Incontinence pads are classed in law as a prescription and treatment. This means they cannot be prescribed by the bladder and bowel service without a full specialist assessment being undertaken and will not be prescribed unless clinically appropriate.
