Read Easy Hull - July 2022

Our aim is to provide the opportunity for adults with no literacy skills, who may feel isolated because of this, the chance to learn how to read - on a one to one basis, twice a week, with a fully trained and insured reading coach, The objectives are to raise general literacy skills within the local community.

There are over 33,000 adults in the Hull area alone with little or no literacy skills.

This will allow those wanting to learn to read, not only an opportunity to do so but also to improve their self confidence. Any adult (18+) within the specified geographical area wanting to learn or improve reading skills This will be on a one to one basis 1 reader 1 coach  with a minimum  of 6 pairs. Supported by a voluntary management group of seven individuals. By improving their literacy, Read Easy also helps our readers to improve their employment opportunities as well as their ability to support their families, allowing some to take their first steps out of poverty.

By enabling parents (and grandparents) to read to their children and support their education, it can often help break the inter-generational cycle of literacy difficulties.

Everyday tasks such as paying household bills, using a cash point machine, reading the instructions on a medicine bottle and doing the weekly shop are no longer overwhelmingly challenging.

Learning to read also hugely increases a person’s confidence and can enable them to take a much more active part in their communities and society as a whole.
