"CHCP CIC is the future"

02 May, 2014

City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) declared their new Business Support Centre officially open today. A grand opening took place at the centre, part of The Beacon Development situated off Brighton Street, Hull.

The building was declared open by Rt Hon Alan Johnson MP by presenting a commemorative plaque to Andrew Burnell, Chief Executive of CHCP CIC.

Alan Johnson said, ‘It’s a huge pleasure and I’m very proud to be here. When I was Secretary of State for Health important things were happening in Hull: one was the purchase of a yacht, which was very controversial but has proved to be a huge success and the other was the creation of City Health Care Partnership CIC, which has also been a massive success. It’s one organisation and one workforce, who have a stake in it themselves. CHCP CIC is run for better profit, ploughing money back into staff, services and the community and we had this type of organisation in Hull before anyone else.

‘I’m very proud that this magnificent building is in my constituency, where it’s now bigger than any other employer in the area. I believe the future of the NHS is about community services and about integration rather than competition, moving care out of hospitals and into the community. CHCP CIC is living and breathing that and it’s well-placed to expand and grow and become even more important. This is a fabulous building and a beautiful design and it’s a good addition to the Hull West and Hessle constituency.’

Andrew Burnell said, ‘This building is keeping the Hull pound and putting money back into the city; it was produced locally, by local firms, something that couldn’t have been done in the NHS with its centralised procurement policies. Because it’s cheaper to run and very environmentally friendly, it’s saving us money and it’s a capital asset for City Health Care Partnership CIC. Four years ago, who’d have thought we’d be here? We want to keep on providing the best quality care and our Business Support Centre is a symbol of sustainability and success; let’s build on it.’
