Are you prepared to care?

07 June, 2013

National Carers’ Week starts on Monday 10th June and as part of this Care-About will be rolling out the Carer’s Information Bus to offer support, information and guidance to various locations around Hull.

Care-About is an outreach service provided by City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP) as part of their Carers Information and Support Service (CISS). With thanks to generous Big Lottery – Reaching Communities funding, Care-About is able to serve and identify 23,000 unpaid carers in Hull.

This year the Carers’ Week theme is ‘Prepared to Care?’ This will focus on how the UK’s current carer population are coping, how effectively the Government is supporting the growing numbers of carers and whether the wider population is prepared for future caring responsibilities.

In keeping with the theme, the service will be promoting their Carer Assessments; these assist unpaid carers to recognise the level of support they are providing and what impact this has on their lifestyle. These assessments help to ensure that carers are not missing out on any services which they, or the person they support, may be entitled to.

Many people who look after and support loved ones do not think of themselves as a carer. If you support a partner, spouse, family member, friend or neighbour of any age you could be an unpaid carer. Without approaching services such as Care-About or CISS unpaid carers could be losing out on information, support and advice that they are entitled to.

Beverley Shore, an Outreach Development Advice Worker for Care-About is delighted to be able to offer this service. “Carers’ Week is the ideal time to recognise the amount of unpaid support and care people of Hull provide to their loved ones. It is also a great opportunity to let them know they are not alone and advice information to assist them in their situation is out there.”

During the week the Carers Information Bus will be visiting the following locations:

Monday 10th June 2013 10am – 4pm: Queen Victoria Square / King Edward Street
