New carers centre to launch

04 June, 2013

Thursday 6th June 2013 will see the Carers Information and Support Service (C.I.S.S.) officially open their new Hull city centre base. The new ‘shop style’ premises is on King Edward Street, and was chosen so that members of the public are able to pop in as they go about their daily business.

C.I.S.S. was launched last year following City Health Care Partnership CIC’s (CHCP CIC) successful bid to provide the service formally known as The Carer’s Centre, and up until now has been situated within Wilberforce Health Centre.

Service manager Heather Kelly said, “We’re really happy with the new building, it looks great and the location will enable us to reach and help a larger audience.”

The service has found that people who care for others do not always identify themselves as a carer; they see it as their duty of being a child, parent or partner to look after a loved one and don’t look for any help. It is hoped that the new, easily accessible location will be able to reach these people and offer them the advice and support that they are entitled to.

The building, formerly the site of Carphone Warehouse, has had a full refurbishment carried out by City Care. Carl Sarel, Construction Services Manager has said “The location of the project did provide us with a few challenges but we are delighted to have completed the project on time and on budget and we’re very proud to be supporting CHCP CIC in providing a fantastic facility and service to the public.”

Come along to King Edward Street on Thursday to find out more about the service and what you may be entitled to.
