Black and Minority Ethnic Environment Network (BAMEEN)

BAMEEN exists to further the development of environmental awareness and activity among BME, black and ethnic minority and communities and groups for both theirs and the wider communities benefit.

They do this by understanding that BME’s are often among the more disadvantaged and tend to play less of a role in environmental activities that other communities. They particularly engage with environmental issues impacting on the day to day lives of BME’s namely energy consumption and conservation, waste management and minimization and food production and consumption.

To date BAMEEN has been involved in raising awareness around local food growing opportunities and the impact such opportunities may have on healthy diets. Their main focus is to give support to community’s efforts by improving communications between BAMEEN and the BME communities.

BAMEEN were awarded a grant by the CHCP Foundation in September 2014 to enable their project to engage predominately black and minority ethnic in Hull in health literacy, education and social activities to address health problems for improved health and wellbeing.
