Out of Hours Nursing

What do we do?

The Out of Hours Nursing Service is a continuation of the day time District Nursing Service, which provides nursing care to people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Planned care

Your nurse or other health professional will arrange to visit you during the evening and night time. This is usually to provide care that you need frequently (more than once or twice a day), such as wound care, injections and palliative care.

Unplanned/unscheduled care

Throughout the evening and night time, patients, carers and other out of hours care providers can ring for nursing care or advice in a ‘crisis’ to help with, for example: symptom and pain control, catheter care, assessment for changes in clinical condition, verification of expected death.

Referral criteria:

  • Adults over the age of 18.
  • Have an identified nursing need that requires an out of hours response.
